I heard the "Don't die" guy on a podcast and at first I thought, oooh this is interesting. And then it just got weird and I had the same perspective you do...is this a life worth living? It got to feel very "are we just brains in a jar being controlled by some AI being who is just keeping us alive for some purpose that I can't even begin to fathom."
